What fails for Nordic users?

Copilot limits connections to US-based accounts, while Monarch displays every figure with a dollar sign and does not convert currencies. Nordic users therefore need an app with European bank coverage and proper currency handling. Penge uses read-only Open Banking and converts supported currencies into the primary currency you choose.

Copilot can list more than 10,000 supported institutions and still not connect a Nordic account. Its FAQ says that the entire list consists of US financial institutions and that Copilot works with US-based accounts only.^[2]

Mint

Intuit Credit Karma announced that Mint was going away and invited its users to continue on Credit Karma. The announcement says some of Mint's popular features are available there.^[3] Mint shut down in 2024, but Credit Karma is a different product, so old Mint recommendations are no longer current.

Monarch Money

Monarch currently displays all financial data with a dollar sign, does not distinguish currencies behind the scenes and performs no currency conversion. It recommends connecting only USD or CAD accounts and avoiding mixed currencies, and says it has no plans to expand currency support in the near future.^[1] Penge instead converts supported currencies into your chosen primary currency.

Copilot

Copilot's genuine advantage is broader native Apple support: it has iPhone, iPad and Mac apps plus a web app, and it categorizes transactions automatically.^[2] It works with US-based accounts only, so for a Nordic account the connection limit is decisive; Penge covers European bank connections instead.

YNAB, the app those same lists recommend most, is a partial exception: it offers direct import from selected banks in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, but bills in dollars. We compare it separately in our YNAB alternative guide.
