Notifications Penge sends, and how to stop them
Penge sends exactly two notifications, both on for a new account. Everything else you might expect from a money app, price alerts and budget warnings included, is not sent at all.
Which notifications does Penge send?
Two. A reminder when transactions have been sitting uncategorized for a few days, and a message when Penge detects that your salary has landed, at most once a calendar month. Both are on by default and both are turned off in Settings, under Preferences.

Turn a notification on or off
- Open the Settings tab and tap Preferences under Finance.
- Scroll to the section headed Notifications.
- Turn Notify me about uncategorized transactions on or off.
- In the section right below, turn Notify me when my salary arrives on or off.
A toggle here stops that notification at the source, so nothing is sent to any of your devices. How a Penge notification is delivered, quietly or on the Lock Screen, is decided in the iOS Settings app instead, under Notifications and then Penge.
Good to know
- Both settings are stored on your account, not on the phone, so they follow you to another device.
- The reminder counts only transactions dated three or more days ago, so its number can be lower than the one on the Uncategorized Transactions widget.
- The salary message needs history. Penge has to have seen you file the same payer under a salary category before, so a brand-new account gets nothing.
- The salary wording is picked from your primary currency rather than your app language, and the reminder text is written in Norwegian for everyone.
- Penge never asks permission for notifications. It registers quietly, so the first one arrives in Notification Center with Keep and Turn Off. Sound is never requested, and nothing is shown while Penge is open.
What Penge never sends
- No alert when a subscription's price goes up. Penge tracks prices inside the app, but nothing is pushed to you.
- No budget-exceeded warning, and no low-balance alert.
- No push when a bank connection needs renewing. The app marks the Settings tab and the bank instead.
- No weekly or monthly summary, and no reminders scheduled on the phone itself.
The red badge on uncategorized transactions is a different thing again. It is a display setting, Show red badge on uncategorized transactions, under Preferences and Display.

Questions about this
- Why do Penge notifications never make a sound?
- Sound is not requested. Penge asks iOS for alerts and a badge only, so its notifications are silent by design. If you want them to be prominent, open the iOS Settings app, tap Notifications, then Penge, and change the delivery there.
- I turned a notification on, but nothing arrives.
- Push needs a token stored on your account, and signing out clears it. Beyond that, the reminder needs transactions at least three days old, and the salary message needs an income that matches a payer you have filed under a salary category before.
- Why did nothing appear while I had the app open?
- Penge presents nothing in the foreground on purpose. A notification that arrives while you are using the app is not shown, because whatever it would tell you is already on the screen in front of you.
